Mitsubishi was founded in 1917 with the production of their first automobile, the Model A. Mitsubishi didn't venture into motorsports until the 70s when they became active in the Japanese indy car circuit, as well as world rally cross. Through their motorsports endeavors, they eventually began to build motorsport friendly cars for tuners everywhere including the 3000GT, Eclipse GSX, and most notably, the Lancer Evolution.
